Found Objects

Decorating your home is about finding those objects that represent you and putting them to use.  I always encourage clients to personalize a room, especially a living area.  Anyone can take a picture from a  magazine and duplicate the room.  I think it is much more challenging – and ultimately rewarding – to create something unique.  Our house does not have the most stylish or expensive furniture or decor in it; and yet, walking into our front door always gives me that wonderful feeling of coming home.
Most of my favorite things in our house represent a marriage of styles between my husband and I.  As opinionated as I am, I do respect and utilize his opinions.  (And he typically doesn’t make bad decisions!)

Here are just a handful of pieces we have that I love:

This is a piece we bought at a local Amish furniture shop.

Spotlight for the basement stairs

These are two of the pieces we have from my favorite lighting collection at Lowe’s.  We also have a triple-pendant track light in the kitchen and a torchiere in the living room.

One of two cherry corner cabinets made by my Dad

This piece takes a lot of abuse by every child that sets foot in our house:

This table was purchased from my Great Uncle’s estate.  Not only is it a family heirloom, but the style also fits perfectly with our living room decor!
Just remember, it’s your house.  It should reflect who you are and what you like.  Have fun with it!
Happy decorating!

I am a Mom and self-employed Interior Designer. I own a small design studio & home decor shop in downtown Emporium, PA. It’s a small town in the PA Wilds of north-central Pennsylvania. We have some of the most beautiful scenery, and Fall (my favorite season) is breathtaking. I blog for fun to keep my friends and clients informed of what's going on in the design and decorating world, to share my designs, and to show what we're working on in our own home.
